While promoting his upcoming film running man, polygon asked the British filmmaker if he would ever consider a second film. He politely rejected the idea, explaining that he and longtime creative partner Simon Pegg didn’t think there was any more gas in the tank. as far as Sean’s Concerned, Wright said he’s been approached about doing a sequel “not recently,” which he’s fine with. To him, Shawn’s arc is wrapped up nicely at the end of the film, and a second “can ruin the original, because when you watch the original again, you’re thinking, ‘Well they’re going to go through this other thing.’ The resolution ceases to have any meaning.”
That being said, Pegg and Wright pitched earlier Comedy sequel Where the characters fight vampires in Edinburgh or do something completely different in an alternate universe. Fun thought exercise, but two are obviously fine with these ideas in mind.
