Robert Eggers’ knack for exploring how our past informed our present through his richly dense horror films will be studied for generations to come. From language to lore and period-specific costuming, the filmmaker goes through painstakingly detailed research to bring his films to life e.g. The Lighthouse, The Witch, The Northman, and more recently Nosferatu For one thing for life, We agree with Eggers that an immortal Transylvanian lord would have such an epic ‘stache..
Fans of the filmmaker may be annoyed by signing on to it the maze sequel, he’ll jump forward in time with a modern-day rap bookend from the original Jim Henson film, but that seems unlikely based on what Eggers has said recently. Rotten tomatoes. The truth is, he’s only too happy to tell stories set in the past.
“The idea of photographing a car makes me sick. And the idea of taking pictures with a cell phone is just death,” he said of his future projects, which include a The Werewolf Film Which doesn’t happen in modern day like the newly released ones wolf man.
He continued. “To make a contemporary story, you have to take a cell phone picture. That’s just how life is. So, no, [I won’t be making any modern-set films]”
However, he added that he is willing to be a bit more contemporary than before (his latest-set film so far the lighthousewhich occurs in the 1890s). “I could probably go to the 1950s, but the pre-World War I ones are more inviting to my imagination,” he said. And frankly, it’s a relief because no one else is doing it like him. But if the cell phone is a deal-breaker, does that mean that an apocalyptic future with a collapsed civilization is out of the question?
