Russian military aircraft have violated Estonian airspace, the Foreign Ministry in Tallinn said, condemning the invasion of “cheeky.”
It says that three Russian Mig-31 fighters “entered the Estonian airspace without permission and stayed there for a total of 12 minutes” on Friday over the bay of Finland.
The ministry said it was calling for Russian cutting “to protest” while EU’s best diplomat, Kaja Callas, described the invasion as “extremely dangerous provocation”.
The Estonian media reported that the Russian jets had excluded their transponders in the airspace of a NATO member.
The Russian military has not publicly commented on the issue.
In a statement, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkt said the invasion of Friday was “unprecedented brazen”.
He continued: “The increasing border testing and the growing aggression of Russia must be met with a rapid increase in political and economic pressure.”
The minister added that Russia had already violated Estonia’s airspace four times in 2025.
Tensions have escalated between NATO and Russia’s military alliance since Moscow began a full -scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Last week, Poland and Romania – both NATO members – said Russian drones were breaking their airspace.
