new $800 Galaxy S25 and $1,000 S25+ Samsung is starting to look very close to an iPhone announced at Galaxy Unpacked. However, they retain the three vertical camera bumps typified by Galaxy devices. The latest devices include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and 12GB of RAM, which should help power all the new AI capabilities. While cheaper Samsung flagship phones don’t have the S25 Ultra’s big camera sensor, they’ll still pack new AI features like “cross-app actions,” Now Briefs, and Audio Eraser.

Samsung’s “one more thing” wasn’t a pair of AR glasses, as we all expected, but a new phone that harks back to a different era of Samsung mobile devices. We didn’t have much save for what seemed like stacked internals and camera sensors. Supposedly, it will be one Slim model Compared to other S25 stocks. Samsung didn’t provide details about specs, cameras, or anything else that would tempt a die-hard tech reporter. We hope to get more information about this alleged fourth Galaxy phone soon.

Of course, Samsung’s next big thing is AI, but smart glasses Packing new conversational AI assistants is also just around the corner. We don’t have a specific device, as Samsung showed off during its keynote, but it will support Android XR, just like the company’s Project Muhan AR headset. Samsung brought its previously announced XR device to the site Unpacked, though no one was allowed to get their hands on it.
The headline feature of all the new phones is the cross-app actions you can take with the built-in Gemini AI. If you hold down the side power button on the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, you’ll bring up a pop-up assistant for you to speak or type your prompts. This platform will allow you to work on both Samsung and Google apps. If you want to search for an email, add it to the calendar or type a text based on something in your notes You have to specify whether you want to use a Google app instead of Samsung, and the only two third-party apps to start with are WhatsApp and Spotify. Samsung says a new APK will allow other developers to make their apps compatible with relatively little effort.

If you’re still struggling to find that one setting on your phone, Samsung told the crowd at Galaxy Unpacked that its new conversational search for both Gallery and Settings will make it easier to find what you want. However, this won’t change your settings, so users still need to hit the switch. If you get tired of AI features, it can offer a quick and easy way to find out where you need to go and turn them off.

The new Galaxy S25 line has a “Now Bar” on the lock screen. It’s similar to the regular widgets you see on Pixel phones, but crossed with the iPhone’s Dynamic Island. This widget will display the weather and some other details to start with. However, Samsung promises that its “personal AI” will begin to understand your habits and app usage, then put some relevant details in place in your morning or evening summary, such as health and wellness metrics or the current score of the game you’re playing. Pay attention.

There are further improvements to the phone’s on-device generative editing capabilities, including an “auto” button that lets AI track which stats don’t belong in your shot. If removing people from your photos doesn’t float your boat, audio eraser is one of the Galaxy S25’s headline new features. It can take any video and analyze it for different soundtracks, separating it into voice, music, wind or distortion. Users can then change the volume of each sound source. The feature promises to help users remove oppressive background noise, like any wind when you speak into your phone’s mic on a skiing trip, or the sound of a torturous jackhammer from a video of a family outing.

While Gemini now sits prominently at the power button on Samsung’s Galaxy S25 phone, Google’s conversational AI Gemini Live sits as an interesting but ultimately questionable app for most Android users. The feature could be a bit more useful with the ability to upload images and talk to Google’s AI about them. You can also talk to AI about files uploaded to your AI or YouTube videos that are linked What can you talk about with AI? Maybe you can ask it about the composition of the photo or whether AI created that YouTube video These features should come to both the Pixel 9 series as well as the Galaxy S24 and S25 phones in the coming weeks. Google has also promised to bring another Project Astra Features like screen sharing and live video AI conversations “in the coming months.”

Google’s Circle to Search debuted on the Galaxy S24 and continues to improve on the S25. During the conference, Google said it is expanding the length of AI overviews users receive when searching for images or text. Circle to search to better recognize numbers, email addresses or URLs. The tool can detect sound from video and visuals.
A new AI search built into Gallery is similar to improvements Google and Apple have made to their own Photos apps. While it’s not very exciting, Samsung demoed for Gizmodo how the new Galaxy phones will allow you to search for audio in YouTube videos or wherever you hear your tunes.

This feature is similar to the Shazam music discovery app, the ability to hum your phone to find the name of a tune you can’t get out of your head.

The Galaxy S25 phones will also get some improvements to the “Smart Select” feature, now redubbed to “AI Select”. It allows you to capture on-screen content by drawing around an object on your screen. While many of these actions are already handled by Circle Two Search, Samsung is adding the ability to record GIFs from videos without any additional downloads and conversions. Unfortunately, you can’t control the framerate, and you’re locked into a set number of seconds for recording, but it can be an easy way to send GIFs to friends without any extra heavy lifting.

Professional videographers can now use their Galaxy phones to shoot direct logarithmic, otherwise known as LOG. This feature will be available in Pro mode in users’ Camera app. Samsung touts that you’ll be able to shoot in 10-bit HEVC and then export to a professional software suite like Davinci Resolve for color correction.

Doctor Samsung hopes you get more from Samsung Health with even more health and wellness tracking capabilities The company says it will add a vascular load index and antioxidant index for those who want to properly manage what they eat. Samsung plans to upgrade devices with mindfulness features to support your mental health. Integrating AI with the app to become your “personal health assistant”. We’ll have to see more when these features debut in the second half of this year.
