(Reuters) – South Korea’s Jeju Air passenger plane crashed on landing at Mueang International Airport on Sunday, killing 179 people in the country’s deadliest air disaster.
Following are the final minutes of Flight 7C2216, provided by South Korea’s Ministry of Transportation and fire officials.
All times are Korea Standard Time (GMT+9).
8:54 am – Muan Airport Air Traffic Control clears the plane to land on Highway 01, which turns 10 degrees north-east.
8:57 am – Air traffic control issues a “Caution – Bird Movement” advisory.
8:59 a.m. – The pilot of Flight 7C2216 reports a bird strike, emergency calls “mayday mayday mayday” and “bird strike, bird strike, turn around.”
9:00 am – Flight 7C2216 took off and requested clearance to land on runway 19, the opposite end of the airport’s single runway.
9:01 am – Air traffic control has given permission to land on runway 19.
9:02 am – Flight 7C2216 makes contact with the runway at the 1,200 m (1,312 yd) point from the 2,800 m (3,062 yd) runway.
9:02:34 am – Air traffic control alerts “Distance alarm” at the airport fire rescue unit.
9:02:55 am – The deployment of fire fighting equipment of the airport fire rescue unit has been completed.
9:03am – Flight 7C2216 overshoots the runway and crashes.
9:10 am – Ministry of Transport receives accident report from airport authorities.
9:23 am – A male was rescued and transported to a temporary medical facility.

9:38 am – Muan Airport is closed.
9:50 am – The rescue of a second person from the tail section of the plane is complete.
