Yasin Ozturk/Anadolu by Getty ImagesThe FBI has fired a group of agents who were in the photo, kneeling for racial justice because of George Floy’s death, the United States said, referring to unnamed sources familiar with the question.
The agents were reported to have taken the knee with others during a demonstration in Washington in 2020. Floyd, a black man, was killed by a police officer who kneeling on his neck in May of that year, igniting the global protest.
It is estimated that between 15 to 20 agents were fired on Friday – although the exact number is unclear.
The FBI Agents Association condemned their termination in a statement, saying their rights had been violated. The FBI declined to comment on the reports when I turned to the BBC.
The reported shootings come when the Trump administration seeks to clear what it sees as left and so -called “wake up” policies and employees from every part of the federal government.
Several right commentators criticized agents and police officers who were in the picture at the time, kneeling on social media.
But their supporters claim that kneeling is a tactic to reduce tension with protesters, instead of signaling that agents have agreed to their views.
The act became a symbol of disagreement against racism, as the viral footage showed Floyd’s killer, white policeman Derek Chavin, kneeling to his neck while he was nailed to the floor for more than nine minutes.
An official examination after death found that Floyd had died of a heart attack caused by a neck compression. Currently, Chavin is serving a sentence of 22 and a half for Floyd’s murder.

The massive dismissal on Friday is the most native of a series of firing at the FBI.
Former acting agency director Brian Driscol, a former assistant director responsible for the Washington Field office Stephen Jenson, and Spencer Evans, a former special agent responsible for the Las Vegas field, were all recently released.
