Fri more suspects have been arrested for their involvement in the Louvre robbery, the Paris prosecutor said.

They were arrested on Wednesday evening in the Paris area, Laure Bequo’s office said.

The main suspect is among those detained, AFP reported. The new arrests come after two men “partially admitted” their involvement on Wednesday’s larceny.

Artifacts worth 88 million euros (£76 million; $102 million) were taken from the world’s most visited museum on October 19 when four thieves broke into the building in broad daylight.

The jewels have not yet been found, Bequau told French radio station RTL on Thursday.

She added that DNA from one of those arrested could be linked to the crime scene.

French investigators are not releasing many more details at this stage, but the new suspects could be held for four days before being charged or released.

Authorities believe the gang involved in the robbery may be larger than the four people caught on CCTV.
