France has officially recognized the Palestinian state, becoming the smallest in a wave of countries to take the step.
Speaking to the UN in New York, President Emmanuel Macron said that it was “time for peace” and that “nothing justifies the ongoing war in Gaza.”
France and Saudi Arabia host a one -day meeting at the UN General Assembly, focused on plans for a bilateral conflict decision. The G7 stated Germany, Italy, and the US did not attend.
Macron has confirmed that Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Andorra and San Marino will also recognize a Palestinian state after Britain, Canada, Australia and Portugal have announced a recognition on Sunday.
International pressure is rising on Israel because of the unfolding humanitarian crisis in the gas and the building of the settlements on the west coast.
Israel said the recognition would reward Hamas for the attack by the Palestinian armed group on October 7, 2023 against South Israel, which killed about 1,200 people and 251 hostages.
Since then, more than 65,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. At the moment, the Israeli forces are carrying out a ground offensive aimed at control of the city of Gaza, where a million people lived and the hunger was confirmed last month.
The French leader told the conference that the time had come to stop the war and to free the other Israeli hostages held by Hamas. He warned against “the danger of endless wars” and said “the right should always prevail over power.”
The International Community failed to build a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East, he said, adding that “we need to do our best to preserve the possibility of a decision of two countries,” which will see “Israel and Palestine Ramo by Peace and Security.”
Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan al -Saud also addressed the UN, on behalf of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
He reiterated that the bilateral solution is the only way to achieve lasting peace in the region.
UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres cited the Gaza situation as “moral, legal and politically intolerable” and said the bilateral decision was “the only credible path” for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas – who was blocked to attend the UN General Assembly personally after the US canceled visas of his and other Palestinian officials – turned to the conference via Videolink.
He called for a constant ceasefire and said that Hamas could not play a role in Gaza’s rule, urging the group to “pass his weapons” to the Palestinian power (PA).
“What we want is a single condition without a weapon,” he said.
Abbas also condemned Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2023 against South Israel and addressed the Israelis, saying, “Our future and yours depends on peace. Enough violence and war.”
ReutersMacron said that France is ready to contribute to a “stabilization” mission in gas and called for a transitional administration, including the BCP, which will monitor the dismantling of Hamas.
He said that France would open an embassy only to the Palestinian state when all hostages held by Hamas were released and the fire was agreed.
The UN Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon spoke to reporters shortly before Macron’s announcement.
Tanning said a decision by two countries was downloaded “out of the table” after the attack on October 7th and called the talks this week at the UN Charade. He also refused to exclude Israel, annexing the occupied West Coast.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted that there would be no Palestinian state west of the Jordan River, and President Isaac Duke said that the recognition of a man would only “strengthen the forces of darkness.”
Prior to Macron’s announcement, the Palestinian and Israeli flags were shown on the Eiffel Tower on Sunday night. A number of mayoralties in France also flew in Palestinian flags on Monday, despite the government order of local prefects to maintain neutrality.
Some of the Propalist protests were also held in some 80 cities and cities in ItalyWhere the Georgia Meloni government has recently said it can be “counterproductive” to recognize a condition that does not exist.
In Germany, the government said Palestinian statehood is not currently in debate, and Foreign Minister Johan Wadeful explained as he left for New York on Monday that “for Germany, the recognition of the Palestinian state is coming more at the end of the trial. But this process must begin now.”
