French Prime Minister Sebastien Director resigned less than a day after his office was opened.

The Elysée Palace made the message after Lecornu met with President Emmanuel Macron for an hour on Monday morning.

The shock move comes only 26 days of Directu was appointed Prime Minister after the collapse of the previous François Bayro government.

The parties beyond the National Assembly are furiously criticized by the composition of the cabinet of Director, which was largely unchanged from Bairu’s and threatened to vote.

Several parties are now striving for early elections, with some calling on Macron to resign – although he has always said he will not stand up before his term of office ended in 2027.

“Macron has to choose: termination of parliament or resignation,” says Sebastien Cun, one of the leading figures of the final right national rally (RN).

Horny – former Minister of Armed Forces and Macron’s loyalist – was French Fifth Prime Minister for less than two years.

French politics has been very unstable since July 2024, when the SNAP parliamentary elections led to a suspended parliament.

This made it difficult for every Prime Minister to win the necessary support to accept any account.

The Bairu government was voted in September after parliament refused to support its budget for strict savings, which aims to reduce government spending by $ 44 billion ($ 51 billion; $ 38 billion).

French deficiency reached 5.8% of GDP in 2024, and its national debt is 114% of GDP. This is the third highest public debt in the euro area after Greece and Italy and equivalent to almost € 50,000 per French citizen.

The stocks fell sharply in the Paris Exchange after the news of Directu’s resignation broke on Monday morning.
