At least 27 people were killed in fierce clashes between Hamas’s security forces and armed members of the Dugmush family in Gaza, in one of the most native internal confrontations from the end of major Israeli operations in the enclave.

Hamas masked artillerymen have exchanged fire with clan fighters near the City Jordan Hospital, witnesses said.

A senior employee at Hamas’s interior ministry said that security units were surrounding them and committed to heavy battles to detain them. The ministry said eight members were killed in an “armed attack by the militia”.

Medical sources said 19 members of the Dughmush clan and eight Hamas fighters had been killed since the fighting on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses said the clashes erupted in the Tel Al-Hava neighborhood in South Gaza City after Hamas’s power of more than 300 fighters moved to storm a residential block, where artillery from Dugmush was strengthened.

The residents described scenes of panic, as dozens of families fled their homes in severe shooting, many of them were distracted repeatedly during the war.

“This time, people were not running away from Israeli attacks,” a resident said. “They were running away from their own people.”

The Dugmush family, one of the most famous Gaza clans, has long had a tense relationship with Hamas and his armed members have been confronted with the group several times in the past.

Hamas’s interior ministry said his forces were seeking to restore order, warning that “any armed activity outside the Resistance Framework” will be considered firmly.

Both sides were charging who was responsible for triggering clashes.

Hamas said earlier that the Dugmush artillerymen had killed two of their fighters and injured five others, prompting the group to start surgery against them.

However, a source from the Dugmush family told the local media that Hamas’s forces had come to a building that had once served as a Jordan hospital, where the family had found refuge after their homes in the Al-Sabra neighborhood were destroyed at the recent attack of Israel.

The source claims that Hamas sought to expel the family from the building to create a new base for his forces there.

Hamas has recalled about 7,000 members of his security forces Confirm control over Gaza areas recently released by Israeli troops, according to local sources.

Reports suggest that Hamas’s armed units have already unfolded in several areas, some wearing civilian clothes, and others in the blue uniforms of the Gaza police. Hamas’s media office denied that he had “fighters on the streets”.
