WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President-elect Donald Trump’s national security adviser Mike Waltz said on Sunday that the United States would support Israel in doing what it needs to do if Hamas scraps the Gaza ceasefire agreement. “
In an interview with CBS’ “Face the Nation,” he said, “Hamas will never rule Gaza.” That is totally unacceptable.
Waltz said Trump and his team made it clear to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, “I want the people of Israel to hear me loud and clear.”
“If Hamas cancels this deal and if Hamas backs down, if it pulls up the goal post, what have you, we will support Israel to do what it needs to do,” he said.
Waltz hoped the Trump administration would be able to broker a normalization deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia as part of the Abraham Accords.
