The event marks the first major ceremony of the film awards season, which ends with the Oscars on March 2.
The Globes will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, starting at 01:00 GMT on Monday for UK audiences.
A Globes win could help raise the film’s profile at a crucial time as Bafta and Oscar voters prepare to fill out their nomination ballots.
But the Globes are a much less formal event than the Academy Awards, with celebrities usually in high spirits after the Christmas break, ready to have a few drinks and have fun with their acceptance speeches.
The main film contenders:
Baby Reindeer, Shogun and The Bear are among the shows competing in the television categories.
In recent years, the voting body behind the Globes has expanded and diversified its members and introduced a new code of conduct.
Following are the changes sharp LA Times investigation in 2021 which exposed various ethical lapses, with voters accepting “freebies” from studios and PR agencies lobbying for nominations.
SpotlightThe Golden Globes split their film categories into drama and comedy/musical, which allows them to nominate more films and hand out more awards than other ceremonies.
The film with the most nominations is Emilia Perez, a largely Spanish-language musical about a dangerous cartel leader who wants to leave the world of crime and start a new life as a woman.
However, several of its 10 nominations are in the same categories, with two nominations for Best Original Song and two for Best Supporting Actress.
Other contenders in the musical/comedy category include Anorathe story of a stripper from New York who falls in love with the son of a wealthy Russian oligarch.
The substancewhich sees a woman trade in her body for a younger, prettier version of herself, is also nominated, along with Real painabout two cousins traveling through Poland after the death of their grandmother.

Other dramatic contenders include the gritty sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two and complete unknown about Bob Dylan’s rise to fame in the 1960s.
Blockbusters included Deadpool & Wolverine, Twisters, Inside Out 2, Gladiator II and The wild robot will compete for the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award, which was introduced last year to honor more mainstream films.
Dune: Part Two was not featured in this category despite its massive financial success, reportedly due to the film’s producers wanted Globe voters to focus on its artistic merits.
This means that if members want to vote for the film, they will have to do so in the main categories.
Getty ImagesThere is a much better chance of an actor being nominated at the Globes, where there are 36 open slots, than at the Oscars, which have 20.
As a result, the Globes are able to lean on big celebrity names, ensuring their ceremony is well attended by A-listers, not all of whom will necessarily score an Oscar nomination.
This year’s British acting nominees include Daniel Craig (queer) Kate Winslet (Lee), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Cynthia Erivo (evil) Hugh Grant (heretic), Tilda Swinton (The Room Next Door) and Felicity Jones (The Brutalist).
They are joined by stars Angelina Jolie (Maria), Nicole Kidman (baby girl), Demi Moore (the substance), Glenn Powell (Hit Man), Timothee Chalamet (Completely unknown) and Zendaya (Challengers).
Two pop stars take part in the competition – with Ariana Grande (Evil) and Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez) both in the running for Best Supporting Actress.
Other well-known nominees include Amy Adams (Night Bitch), Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Coleman Domingo (Sing Sing) and Denzel Washington (Gladiator II).
Of paramount importanceThe Supporting Actor category will see two former ‘Inheritance’ stars go head-to-head – Kieran Culkin (Real Pain) and Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice).
Strong’s colleague Sebastian Stan has two nominations – one for playing Donald Trump in The Apprentice and one for A Different Man.
But some of this awards season’s strongest contenders aren’t necessarily Hollywood A-listers, such as relative newcomer Mikey Madison (Anora), Spanish actress Carla Sophia Gascon (Emilia Perez), Brazil Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here) and Russian actor Yura Borisov (Anora).
Away from the top categories, other notable nominees include singer Robbie Williams in the Best Original Song category, for Forbidden Road, from his biopic Better Man.
Two of this year’s winners have already been announced: Viola Davis will pick up the Cecil B DeMille Award for Outstanding Contribution to Film, while Ted Danson will be honored with the Carol Burnett Award for Excellence in Television.
Getty ImagesThe Globes traditionally have excellent taste in hosts, regularly bringing in a sharp personality to crack sharp jokes on the A-list guests.
They’re continuing that pattern this year with American Comics Nikki Glaser, who gave a banging performance on The Roast of Tom Brady last summer.
Glazer said she was “absolutely thrilled” to host the Globes, adding that she was looking forward to getting a “front row seat” to “one of my favorite nights on television.”
“This is one of the few times when show business not only allows but encourages it to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God, I hope),” she said in a statement.
“Some of my favorite jokes of all time have come from the opening monologues at past Golden Globes, when Tina (Fey), Amy (Poehler) or Ricky (Gervais) have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear. .
“I’m just hoping to continue in that time-honored tradition (which may also unseat me). It really is a dream job.”
Getty ImagesAmerican viewers can watch the show live on the CBS network, which broadcasts the Globes as part of a five-year deal.
It will also air on Paramount+ with Showtime. The ceremony starts at 01:00 GMT and usually lasts between three and four hours.
UK viewers without a VPN can expect to see highlights on social media, YouTube and news bulletins on Monday morning.
