Immigration agents have arrested the chief of the largest school area in Iowa, accusing him of excessive retention of his student visa.

The head of state schools of DES Moines Ian Andre Roberts was arrested on Friday by immigration and customs law enforcement (ICE) by order of fugitive. He is also faced with a crime by firearms.

Officials claim that he is a Guiana citizen and that his permission to work in the United States has expired in 2020. School district officials claim that they have not told them the circumstances of his arrest and called him an integral part of the school community.

It comes against the background of a broader repression in the United States in terms of immigration, as President Donald Trump seeks to deport all illegal migrants.

It is unclear if G -n Roberts hired a lawyer to speak on his behalf.

The records show that it is closed at an immigration retention center near the city of de Moine.

Ice said in a statement that “a loaded gun, $ 3,000 in cash and a fixed blade hunting knife” was found.

The agency said it initially escaped the police in a vehicle that was provided to him by the school neighborhood. Later, the officers found his abandoned vehicle and deployed him with the help of the State Patrol in Iowa.

Roberts has an existing weapon fee since February 2020 and initially entered the United States for a student visa in 1999, according to ICE. A federal judge ordered him to be deported in 2024.

The investigation of the pistol found by employees is transmitted to the alcohol, tobacco, firearm and explosives bureau, Ice said, noting that it was illegal for undocumented immigrants to the United States to have firearms.

Prior to leading the area of about 30,000 students in Iowa, he had previously worked as a lecturer in four other states and won diplomas and loans from universities, including Georgetown and Harvard.

He also competed for Guiana on the track of the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and participated in the World Cup in Japan and Spain, according to NBC News.

A biography of the school neighborhood website says that “he was born to immigrant parents from Guiana and spent the bigger part of his forming years in Brooklyn, New York.” This adds that he “enjoys hunting”.

School board chairman Jackie Norris told a press conference on Friday that the board was still trying to determine the facts of his case.

“We don’t have all the facts. There are many things we don’t know,” she said, according to De moyin’s register newspaper.

“However, what we know is that D -R Roberts has been an integral part of our school community since he joined two years ago.”

The local ICE Olson director said in a statement that the arrest “must be awakened for our communities to the great work that our employees do every day to eliminate public safety threats.”

“How this illegal alien was hired without a work permit, the final removal order and a previous weapon fee is beyond understanding and should alert the parents of this school neighborhood,” he added.
