Italy PM tells Gaza Aid Flotilla to stop or risk “prevention of peace”

Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni told a fleet, who sails to Gaza to stop, saying that activists’ last attempt to provide risks of help derailting the US plan to end war.

More than 40 boats floating in the global fleet SUMUD (GSF) are accompanied by an Italian naval frigate, which Italian officials said it would stop after the fleet was 150 nautical miles (278 km) from the Gaza coastline.

Italian officials called on the fleet to accept a compromise and to release the help in Cyprus to avoid confrontation with Israel.

“Every other choice risks becoming a pretext of preventing peace, feeding conflicts, and therefore affecting all Gaza people,” Meloni said.

But in a statement, the global Sumud Flotilla said it would continue to sail.

“The Italian Navy will not derail this mission. The humanitarian request for breaking the blockade cannot return to the harbor,” the statement said.
