A swarm of Medusa caused major disturbances in one of the largest nuclear power plants in France for the second time in a month.

The jellyfish entered the filters of the pumping station and the nuclear power plant in Palell, said French Energy Energy Company EDF.

The incident reduced production at the Normandy plant by 2.4 gigans and crews work to restore it to full work.

In August, the generation of another major nuclear object in France was also disturbed by jellyfish after “Massive and unpredictable” swarm forced the Gravelines factory to temporarily terminate the operationsS

The hit is almost half the 5.2 Gigawatt output of Paluel after one of its four reactors was closed and a second was reduced as a protective measure.

Nuclear represents about 70% of Francis energy consumption, according to the World Nuclear Association (WNA).

Paluel is one of the largest nuclear power plants in France, with each of its four units generating over 1300 megawatts.

In a statement, EDF said they had taken the measures at 21:00 local time (20:00 BST) after the “arrival of the jellyfish” in the filters of the nuclear part of the plant.

The company added that its teams “perform the necessary diagnostics and interventions” at the moment to return both reactors back online.
