Nikos Michaloliakos, the leader of the Greek neo-Nazi party Golden Zora, has been released from prison less than half of his sentence.
The ultimate right-wing politician and the denial of the Holocaust was allowed by a Judicial Council to serve the remainder of his 13-year sentence within the limits of his home on health grounds on Friday, state media reports.
The conditional release of the 67-year-old youth after five years in prison angered left-wing parties, claiming that the judiciary should not be reconciled.
This is the second time when Michaloliakos was missed after his sentence in 2020 because of the litan of violent attacks against immigrants and political opponents committed by supporters of the Golden Dawn.
He was briefly released in May 2024, the AFP information information agency reported before forensic officials found that he had not adequately good behavior and forced him to return to prison.
Michaloliakos founded and chaired a party that was found to be a criminal organization bound by the murder of an anti -fascist musician, as well as to attempt to kill Egyptian fishermen and communist activists.
It became the third in the 2012 election of Greece as an anti -immigrant, a nationalist vote, fueled by economic difficulties due to the country’s financial crisis.
Michaloliakos himself is a fan of Nazism and gave a greeting to Hitler at party rallies. While Golden Dawn officially denied being a neo -Nazi movement, she accepted the iconography influenced by the Nazi.
He and his former MPs were found guilty of running or belonging to the criminal group.
The new left of Greece said in a statement to the state media that the release of Michaloliacos was a “serious blow to collective memory and the struggle for democracy and justice”, adding that the justice system “cannot send a message of impunity to those who embody hatred and fascism.”
The Nation’s Communist Party said the decision should be annulled, adding that “the crimes of the Golden Dawn are not limited to time in the minds of people and youth.”
