Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Hamas of rejecting the accord from its extremist allies by rejecting parts of the Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal.
Mediators announced late Wednesday that Hamas and Israel had reached an agreement to end the 15-month war in Gaza and free the 98 hostages still being held captive.
But Netanyahu’s government, which relies on the support of two far-right parties staunchly opposed to any deal, insisted the final details must be worked out and said Thursday morning that Hamas was backing down.
Netanyahu’s office said Israel would not set a date for the cabinet and government meeting (to approve the deal) until the mediators announced that Hamas had approved all details of the deal.
There has been no response from Hamas.
This is a developing story.
