Palantir said on Thursday it has struck a partnership with Lumen Technologies that will see the telecommunications company use the data management company’s AI software to build capabilities to support enterprise AI services.
The companies are calling the deal “a multi-year, multi-million dollar strategic partnership,” but Bloomberg ReportLumen is set to spend more than $200 million on Palantir’s technology over the years, citing anonymous sources.
The deal will see Lumen integrate Palanti’s foundry and artificial intelligence platform (AIP) with its own edge computing, broadband infrastructure and other digital services.
The partnership comes as Lumen tries to transform itself from a traditional telecom provider to a more modern technology infrastructure. The company in September Said it was “collaborating” with Palantir To integrate modern foundry and AI software and services into its operations, finance and technology functions, “to transform its networks and services with speed.”
Although Lumen would not confirm the value of the deal, its spokesman Joe Goode told TechCrunch in an email that the company’s use of Palantir’s technology was a “material contributor” to the $350 million in cost reductions in 2025. He added that it was during this collaboration that the companies communicated their decision to enter into the partnership Lumen has committed to cutting costs by $1 billion by 2027, and it says it’s already ahead of schedule.
“Palentir has shown that its Foundry and AIP platforms can unlock Lumen’s data faster and cheaper than traditional data-lake migrations, and together we are pursuing solutions to help large enterprises do the same,” said Good.
For Palantir, it’s the latest in a long line of deals for which it has partnered with companies of all stripes and government agencies to sell its AI products and services. Including the Lumen deal, Palantir has signed 19 partnerships this year alone, across sectors such as aviation, healthcare, telecom, contract management, data management, defense and more.
