PayPal fined in New York for cyber security breaches Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters) – PayPal (NASDAQ: ) will pay a $2 million civil penalty over cybersecurity breaches that exposed customers’ Social Security numbers, New York State Financial Services Superintendent Adrian Harris said on Thursday.

The deal follows an investigation into allegations that PayPal failed to employ both qualified personnel to manage key cybersecurity functions and provide adequate training to address cybersecurity risks.

Harris said these failures made sensitive customer information, including Social Security numbers, easily accessible to cybercriminals.
