Russia struck Ukraine with rocket and drone attacks overnight on Saturday and Sunday morning, focusing on the big western city of Lviv.

The neighbor of Ukraine Poland transferred fighter jets to ensure the safety of Polish airspace, confirmed the Polish military. NATO allied aircraft were also located.

LVIV regional leader Maxim Kozitsky said two people were killed in strikes in the region and two more injured.

Elsewhere, Russia again headed for Ukraine’s power plants – and one was hit overnight against the attachment, where the mayor said one man had died and over 73,000 people were without electricity.

The Russian attacks came days after an US employee said the US would support Ukraine by firing deep blows to Russian territory.

“Polish and allied aircraft operate in our airspace, while ground-based air defense systems and radar intelligence systems are brought to the highest state of readiness,” said Poland’s operational command in a publication of X.

Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

LVIV Mayor Andri Sadovia said that part of the city – 70 km (43 miles) from the border with Poland – had no power, adding that air defense systems in the city were strongly engaged in a drone repulsion and then a Russian rocket attack.

At 07:30 (04:30 GMT), parts of the city were left without energy and public transport is yet to start working, with the saddle stress on Telegram that it is “dangerous to go out on the street”.

In the attachment, the attack for one night of Russia left “more than 73,000 users … without electricity”, according to Ivan Fedorov, a regional governor.

One man was killed and nine wounded, Fedorov said.

A 16-year-old girl was one of those who received medical attention, he added, posting photos apparently showing a partially destroyed multi-storey block and a burned car from the scene of the attack.

Many strikes were part of Russia’s threats against all Ukraine overnight.

Around 6:00 (03:00 GMT), the Air Force of Ukraine said that the whole country was under the threat of fresh Russian missile attacks, after hours of air attack signals and drones and rocket attacks.

The Russian forces have occupied most of the Ukraine region in East Donbass, including Luhansk and Donetsk, since the beginning of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Currently, Russia controls about one fifth of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimean Peninsula, which it annexed in 2014.

In Russia, the air defense departments have destroyed 32 Ukrainian drones overnight, the RIA state agency said on Sunday, citing data from the Ministry of Defense of Russia.

Last week, Ukraine’s US Special Messenger Keith Kelloge told Fox News that the United States will support Ukraine by launching deep blows in Russian territories.

“The answer is yes, use the ability to hit deeply, there are no such things as sanctuaries,” Kelloge said when he asked him if President Donald Trump’s position was that Ukraine could have strikes at long distances.

Meanwhile, another NATO member – Lithuania – had to close its airspace briefly after the objects had been noticed after recent incidents in Denmark, Norway and Germany.

Lithuania stopped the flights of the largest and most busy Vilnius Airport for a few hours before opening it again at 04:50 (01:50 GMT) on Sunday.

The airport operator said the stop and the deviations of the flight were “due to a possible series of balloons aimed at Vilnius Airport.”
