Alien: Romulus It was full of surprises For its fans the alien franchise, so it’s fitting that, a few months later, it got a big, final twist for everyone. No, nothing crazy The creepy alien hybrid from the end of the movie. We mean a tweak to the visual effects for the home release in one of its most controversial scenes.
In the film, the crew encounters an android named Rook who aboard the titular ship with allegiance to the evil corporation, the Wayland-Yutani. Rook looks exactly like Ash, played by Ian Holm at the root the alienBecause he is the same make and model as Ash. Holm died in 2020 However, with So’s widow’s permission, director Fede Alvarez and his team recreated Holm’s likeness with a combination of practical effects, visual effects and on-set acting. YYou can read about the specifics hereAs well as why people were a bit upset about it.
Although out active, when Romulus hit theaters last summer, Alvarez wasn’t quite happy with how the effect looked. “We ran out of time in post-production to fix it,” he told Empire magazine. “I wasn’t 100 per cent happy with some shots, where you could feel the CG interference a bit too much. So, those who react negatively, I don’t blame them.”
Knowing this, Alvarez and the team went back and improved the shot for the home release. He confirmed the action in X (noted by Screencrush) and then explained more on the empire. “We fixed it,” he said. “We’ve made it even better for release now. I explained to the studio that we had to spend the money and made sure we were giving the companies involved the proper time to finish it and do it right. It’s great.”
There isn’t a video to compare the two (yet), but according to Alvarez, the new influence on the home release leans more towards the physical side of creation rather than the digital, which was the opposite of the theatrical release. “[Animatronic puppeteer] Shane Mahan actually did this animatronic of Ian Holm based on the main cast Lord of the RingsAnd it was the only one in existence,” Alvarez said. “That’s what we did [for the home release] A lot of returns were made to puppets. It’s great.”
