“Was it worth it?” – BBC correspondents evaluate Trump’s state visit

There is little doubt that Donald Trump was more enthusiastic about the day he spent at Windsor Castle than about his conversations with Sir Kiir Starmer in Checkors.

And this is not easy for the hospitality of the United Kingdom Prime Minister during this state visit, which Trump and his team were not eager to praise.

Starmer’s residence is undoubtedly an impressive place for meetings and even had an air display from the Red Devils of the British Army, who flew huge British and American flags to welcome the US leader to Buckinghamshire province.

But as much as Trump seems real as Starmer, with their warm connection, exposed to a joint press conference on Thursday, the president was completely deluded by the King and Queen’s household on Wednesday.

According to his headquarters, Susie Wills, his final focus of the trip is the complex evening banquet for 160 guests in the hall of St. George Castle at Windsor Castle tonight.

For Trump, who has a deep and long admiration for Royals, it is difficult to compete with being toasted by the King. No matter how many jets are laid for you in the sky above the shafts.

State visits, such as these allow presidents and prime ministers to contact each other at a further level and offer a chance to their relevant staff to build working relationships. They are also an opportunity to demonstrate the proximity of the big stage relationship.

In this sense, it was a smooth sailing for both sides.

During the joint press conference, there was no real inconvenience that had the potential to expose areas of disagreement.

When the two men were asked for one of these problems, The UK plan to recognize Palestinian statehoodTrump said he disagreed, but also gave a big smile to Starmer and a warm slap on the back while the prime minister condemned Hamas.

And on another potentially difficult topic, Peter Mandelson’s dismissal as the UK ambassador to the United States because of his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, Trump was unusually silent. He said very little and immediately affects Starmer.

The two leaders discussed Gaza and Ukraine when they spent almost an hour in conversations alone without any of their staff in the room. And although they were very friendly during the press conference, it also quickly became clear that none had changed their position on key issues they disagree with.

There are restrictions on how much influence any Trump leader can have, regardless of the success of traveling like this.

Internal inspections I asked Wiles, the president’s head of the president, how much there would be a difference for the UK’s ability to influence US policy on trade, tariffs and international issues. Her answer was honest – she wasn’t at all.

As much as Trump enjoys this state visit, he will not change his position on important global issues because of a memorable night spent at Windsor Castle.

But after all the pomposity and competition, it seems that Starmer has won the less right to disagree with Trump without paying a diplomatic penalty.

It may be expensive to turn to the wrong side of the US president, but by carefully navigating relations, the United Kingdom has managed to avoid punishing high trade tariffs imposed on other countries. Meanwhile, Starmer has not been subjected to a humiliating bandage or a humiliating nickname was given.

Although this would never go down as the inconvenient clash we sometimes saw in the oval office this year – not only with Voladimir Zelenski of Ukraine, but also with other leaders – it is also noticeable that the more relaxed Trump approached the questions during the closing press conference than often.

Did the UK Prime Minister play his Trump card by organizing this lavish state visit? She was choreographed flawlessly and clearly admires Trump and the first lady.

And while Starmer may not have gained the ability to change the president’s opinion, he may disagree with him without endangering relations. For this reason, falling out now feels further than ever.
