This is a beautiful small town. I like to go back and spend more time, but no, it was okay, “Let’s just eat something,” because I want to come back – I’ve got a lot to do.
Did you tell someone in the pub that won the Nobel Prize?
I didn’t tell anyone, haha. I didn’t think I needed to do it.
You said that you do not follow the Nobel Prize. How much was the shocked to you that you won? I assume that you are aware of how big your discoveries are about the breakthrough, but what do you think, well, a lot of great science is happening here?
I’m not quite foolish. The main reason I never thought it would happen was about eight years ago, with Shimon Sakaguchi, who was one of the co-migrants for it and then another very good friend who did amazingly at the Sloved Caring Institute, we won the Craftboard Award, which is also the Royal Swedish Academy. This is a family foundation thing in Sweden.
I think, 2017, and it was a great time. You know, speech, we met Crown Princess. It was amazing. And so I thought, okay, this particular scientific invention is about to get that is great. So I like, it’s better than that I can’t expect. People talked about the Nobel, and I would be like “I don’t think”. And after that, I was like, “This will never happen, don’t even think about it.” So I was really shocked when I heard about it.
Why do you think you got the Nobel Prize for this job now? Do you think this is because of the cover because of increasing interest in immunology? Or is it because these discoveries have made several hundred new medical trials possible now?
