US Senator Ted Cruz has accused the head of the US regulator of acting as a “mafia” in stopping the host of late night Jimmy Kimmel, the most casual attack so far by a conservative republican in the dispute.
He said that the chairman of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) Brandon Carr for the ABC because of their comedian monologue on the murdered conservative influence, Charlie Kirk, was “dangerous as hell”.
“This is exactly from Goodfles,” said the Texas Republican as he affected the focus of the mafia.
Other Republicans in the Congress were more muted in their criticism of how FCC pressed ABC, owned by Disney, to take action on Kimmel, which was stopped indefinitely on Wednesday.
The order began after Kimmel said in his monologue on Monday that the Mag’s Band is desperately trying to characterize this child who killed Charlie Kirk as something different from one of them and tries to “score political points from him.”
He also likened Trump’s reaction to the death of the conservative political activist of “How the four -year -old mourns goldfish.”
Brandon Carr called these comments “sick” and threatened to take action as the host seemed “directly to mislead the US public.”
Conservative critics say Kimmel pushes a false story, suggesting that the suspect in Kirk’s murder is the Republic “made America the Great.” While the exact motive is not yet known, on Sunday – before Kimmel spoke – the governor of Utah had said that the suspect was “indoctrinated by the left -wing ideology.”
FCC Responsible for providing networks broadcasting licenses such as ABC, NBC and CBS and they are required in accordance with the Statute to be of the public interest.
In his podcast, a sentence with Ted Cruz, the senator stressed on Friday that he hated what Kimmel said about Kirk, and he was “excited to be fired.” He also said Carr was a “good man”.
“But what he (Carr) said he was dangerous as hell,” Cruz added. “And so he threatens, explicitly, will cancel the ABC license.
“We will take them off the air, so ABC can no longer be broadcast. He says that we can do this the easy way, or we could do it the hard way, yes. And I have to say that this is exactly from Goodfellas.
“It’s just from a mafia that goes into a bar that goes, a nice bar you have here, it would be a pity if something happened to it,” he added, using a voice of the mafia.
He warned that if the government enters the prohibition business and regulates what the media said “this will turn out to be bad for the conservatives.”
“Going down this path, there will be a time when Democrat wins again – wins the White House … They will silence us. They will use this power and use it mercilessly. And that’s dangerous,” Cruz said.
In the Oval cabinet on Friday, President Donald Trump defended Carr and said that “I disagree with Ted Cruz,” who is usually one of his unwavering allies.
Another Republican Senator Tom Tilis of North Carolina told reporters that Cruz was “absolutely right” in his criticism of Carr.
Tile, who will not seek re -election next year, said the comments of the FCC chairman are “simply unacceptable behavior”.
Republicans in Congress as a whole revolve on the party line with their response to Kimel’s stop, as the nation is shaken by the political and cultural afters of Kirk’s murder.
But Senator Jerry Moran, a Republican of Kansas, expressed a note of caution on Thursday.
“The conservative position is free speech is a free speech and we are better at all very careful for all the lines we intersect in the declining free speech,” Moran told Politico.
South Dakota Senator Mike Rowunds said he would approach him as a “employer’s problem”.
Kimmel has not commented publicly on his stopping but his colleagues on a late night – including John Stewart, Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert, “they replied on Thursday with a show of solidarity.
Kirk was fatally shot On September 10, during an outdoor event at Utah College.
On Thursday, the Senate adopted a resolution to determine October 14 – Kirk’s birthday – a day of memory of it.
Legislators in the House of US Representatives approved the resolution, but nearly 100 Democrats opposed it.
In Sacramento, California, police said that three shots were fired in a window of the ABC10 on Friday afternoon while people were inside.
The shots come from a moving vehicle and no one is injured, police said.
It was not clear immediately whether the shooting was a deliberate attack or an accidental release from a weapon.
The ABC10 is a branch managed by Nexstar, one of the main media companies that canceled Jimmy Kimmel Live! From his markets this week, citing the “insulting and insensitive” comments from the host of Kirk.
