The French consumer protection agency has reported Asian fast fashion giant Shein to authorities for selling “child-looking sex dolls” on its website.

The Directorate-General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) said the online description and categorization of the dolls “makes it difficult to suspect the child pornography content”.

Shane later told the BBC: “The products in question were immediately removed from the list as soon as we became aware of these serious issues.”

He said his team was “investigating how these ads bypassed our vetting measures.” Shein also “performs a comprehensive review to identify and remove any similar items that may be listed on our marketplace by other third-party vendors.”

The DGCCRF has reported Shane to French prosecutors as well as Arcom, the country’s online and broadcasting regulator, according to French media.

The news comes just days before Shein opens its first permanent physical store anywhere in the world – in a Paris department store.
