Australian scientists working at a venom laboratory in Paris, France, have shared their research into how quickly several snake species strike and bite.

Speaking to the BBC, study co-author Alistair Evans described how the gel was heated to simulate prey and “lure” the snake into biting.

Using slow-motion footage, the researchers found that vipers are the fastest, but some elapids are almost as fast. They also observed how different species use their teeth to capture their prey and inject venom.
