A man drove a car through the center of Louisiana’s largest city, New Orleans, killing 10 people and injuring 30, local officials said Wednesday.

The attack, which took place early on New Year’s Day at the intersection of Canal Street and Bourbon Street in the heart of the city’s tourist district, was described by local authorities as a “mass casualty”. The statement added that the injured are being treated at five hospitals in the area.

Bourbon Street is one of the main thoroughfares in the city’s historic French Quarter and is lined with bars, restaurants and music venues, attracting local and international visitors.

This is a growing story.
