More than two months ago, Tesla announced its fourth “Master plan“A grandiose post about how the company wants to spread “sustainable abundance” through its future products. Details are sadly lacking, but that didn’t stop Tesla from making central props at the company’s annual meeting Thursday to convince shareholders to hand CEO Elon Musk a compensation package worth $1 trillion.

If that vote passes, the world’s richest man will receive the largest pay package in corporate history.

When the “plan” was revealed, it was so vague that it drew criticism from some of the company’s biggest fans. Even Musk, who said the criticism was “[f]Air” and claimed Tesla will “add more specifics,” acknowledging the plan’s lack of detail.

The post remains unchanged, though it is Tesla’s focal point Relentless campaigning.

Musk maintains that he cares less about money and that Tesla and “Robot army” He wants to build — and has threatened to leave if the vote fails.

Master Plan 4 is in stark contrast to the previous “Master Plan” released by Tesla. Each of these included specific goals and practical ideas, although some were so lofty that Tesla has yet to achieve them. The Third Master Plan released in 2023 focused on creating a sustainable energy economy and came in the form of A 41 page white paper.

Kasturi teased the fourth master plan in June 2024 “Tesla Working on Master Plan 4,” Musk wrote At X at that time. “It will be epic.”

He wrote in another in August this year post that “Master Plan 3 was too complicated for almost anyone to understand,” and said “Master Plan 4 will be shorter.” Tesla revealed the plan just days later.

Despite its imperfections, the materials Tesla sent to shareholders regarding the vote promote the Fourth Master Plan as a reason to approve the compensation package. It is highlighted on BOOKLET INSTRUCTIONS TO SHAREHOLDERS How to vote It got a shout out to Tesla Third Quarter Shareholder Letter. This was mentioned in the interview by the board chair Robin Denholm And Design leader Franz von Holzhausen.

“A while ago, Elon unveiled an inspiring next chapter for Tesla’s master plan, Part IV, which focuses on creating sustainable abundance for all,” wrote Denholm and fellow board member Kathleen Wilson-Thompson. A September letter to shareholdersAgain without going more specific. “We were, and always will be, a company that thinks bold, acts fast and strives for a better future. Building on the Master Plan, Part IV, we reimagine labor, mobility and energy and bring AI to the physical world through products and services like FSD, Optimus and Robotaxis.”

Denholm is drumming up a media blitz to drum up support for a $1 trillion pay package vote, but he hasn’t been asked to lay out a clear vision for Master Plan 4. Instead he focused on the milestones Musk must meet to unlock the full $1 trillion in his pay package — nearly all of which is watered down in versions. Outrageous promises he has made over the years.

Musk himself didn’t directly bring up Master Plan 4 in X, adding more specifics from his Sept. 2 post. He spent days leading up to the shareholder vote promoting the compensation package, fear-mongering about immigrants, and spreading misinformation about the New York City mayoral election.

It was during an interview von Holzhausen with the Ride the Lightning podcast in October that someone pointed out the vagueness of the plan.

“[M]The initial reaction to it as a Tesla shareholder, Tesla owner, Tesla fan, and I’ve seen a lot of it in the Tesla community, felt like it lacked a little bit of detail compared to previous master plans, which were pretty concrete,” said host Ryan McCaffrey, who then moved on to a more positive set of design questions.

“So, why are you excited about Master Plan Part 4 and how Tesla is going to accomplish it? And that’s a big question,” McCaffrey asked.

“We will certainly do it in Tesla fashion,” von Holzhausen responded.
