An American woman detained by the Taliban, along with a British couple, told the BBC that they were “literally dying” in prison and this “time is running out”.
Fay Hall was arrested with Peter at 80 and Barbie Reynolds, 76 on February 1, when he returned to Bamian Province, Afghanistan, where the couple lived.
While d -Ja Hall was Issued in two monthsPeter and Barbie remain in prison and still don’t know why they are behaving.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FCDO) said it supports the family of a couple held in Afghanistan.
Speaking to the BBC breakfast in her first interview after the release, D -Ja Hall fell into tears when he asked him what she wanted to tell the couple.
“I love them, I know they will come out very soon, never give up.”
G -n and d -Ja Reynolds married in Kabul in 1970 and lived in Afghanistan 18 years before their arrest -the reason why it was not confirmed despite four court appearances.
The couple had Afghan citizenship and led a charity program in the country approved by the Taliban when they took power in 2021.
D -Ja Hall said that the group, which also included a translator, flew from Kabul to Bamin Province in a privately used plane when they were stopped at a point.
They then spent days on the road that moves between police officers and prisons.
She described the conditions in which they were held, including narrow cells and a maximum security prison, which holds a “killers”, enclosed by barbed wire and where the guards wore machine guns.
PA mediaShe warned that their health had quickly deteriorated in prison, with Barbie lost considerable weight and unable to stand or walk once.
She also warned that Peter had become ill, although he had received medicines from the Qatari government, which he needs every day after undergoing cardiac surgery and cancer treatment.
“We just have these elderly people, they literally die and time is running out.”
She emphasized that the conditions accept mental charging as well as physically, because “every day you do not know where you will be tomorrow.”
“This is not a healthy environment and we were the only foreigners there,” she added.
The couple’s son told BBC he feared they would die in prisonwarning that Peter has suffered serious convulsions and Barbie is “numb” of anemia and malnutrition.
The UN warned in July that the couple could die “in such humiliating conditions” if he did not receive medical attention at a time, calling their detention “inhuman”.
ReutersD -Ja Hall called on the US and the United Kingdom to “work together” and do more to ensure the couple’s release.
FCDO said, “We support the family of two British citizens who were detained in Afghanistan. The minister met with the family to discuss the case.
The United Kingdom closed its embassy in Kabul and withdrew its diplomats from the country after the Taliban returned to power in 2021.
Therefore, FCDO says support for British citizens in Afghanistan is “very limited” and advises all trips to the country.
A spokesman for the US Department of State said the Taliban has a “history of unjust detention of foreign citizens”.
“They must constantly cease their practice as a hostage diplomacy and release all immediately detained immediately.”
The Taliban Foreign Minister said in July that Barbie and Peter were “in constant contact with their families” and that efforts were being made to secure their release, but “these steps have not yet been completed.”
“Their human rights are respected. They are given full access to treatment, contact and accommodation.”
