The French Navy has conquered nearly 10 tonnes of cocaine worth $ 610 million (£ 540 million) off the coast of West Africa, French authorities said.
Two French naval ships operating as part of Corymbe operation captured the huge cocaine of dysfunctional fishing ship on Monday, acting on a maritime intelligence council, drug control bodies and the British National Crime Agency.
The Naval Mission Corymbe has been located from France in the Gulf of Guinea since 1990 to ensure security in an area where piracy is quite common.
“9.6 tonnes of cocaine are trapped by two French ships,” the French fleet said.
He added that 54 tonnes of medicines have been trapped in the area since the beginning of the year.
The Atlantic Marine Prefecture of France said that “trouble -free cooperation from national and international participants” in the fight against drugs led to the “remarkable seizure” of 9.6 tonnes of cocaine.
The Gulf of Guinean, along the west coast of Africa, has been observed in recent months, numerous drug busts have been observed, with the region being a key transit point in global drug trafficking, more special cocaine from South America has been sent to Europe.
The region was once considered to be the most dangerous piracy zone in the world, surpassing the waters near Somalia. Several Western countries have sent ships to help deal with piracy in the region.
A record cocaine seizure of 10.7 tonnes was made by the French Navy last March, in the largest interception of illegal trade off the shores of West Africa.
