The President of Egypt has pardoned the prominent British-Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel Fatah, who has been in prison for six years, state media and his lawyer say.

Abdel Fatah is one of the six people whose sentenced President Abdul Fatah al-Sisi is traveling after a request from the National Human Rights Council, according to Al-Quhera News. The lawyer confirmed the news and wrote to the X: “Praise of God.”

The 43-year-old blogger and a democracy activist is one of the most famous political prisoners in Egypt.

He was arrested in 2019, months after completing a previous five -year sentence and sentenced in 2021 for “spreading fake news” for sharing a Facebook publication on Egypt torture.

He was to be released in September 2024. However, the Egyptian authorities refused to count more than two years, which he spent pre -trial detention at his time.

He and his mother, Laila Swif, struck hungry to protest against his prison.
