President Donald Trump said the US forces had committed a “deadly kinetic blow” on a ship, which he believes is drug trafficking, and the attack killed three “male drug terrorists” on board.
Trump said he had ordered the attack on the boat, which was in the area of liability of the US Southern Command after US intelligence confirmed that it was drug trafficking. It was the third such strike on supposed drug boats in recent weeks.
Trump’s statement about Truth Social on Friday is said to have happened in international waters. The area of liability of the US Southern Command covers the greater part of South America and the Caribbean.
Two previous strokes have killed a total of 14 boats, which are said to have from Venezuela.
Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro had previously condemned the blows and said his country would defend himself against us “aggression”.
Trump’s post on Friday evening reflected previous reports of such strikes. There was a video showing the boat that travels on a water body, and seconds later, it bursts and burst into flames.
“In my orders, the war secretary has ordered a deadly kinetic strike on a ship connected with a particular terrorist organization conducting drug trafficking in the Ussouthcom responsibility,” Trump said.
“Intelligence has confirmed that the ship is transferring illegal drugs and is crossing a known passage to drug trafficking that is attached to Americans,” he writes.

Legal experts told the BBC earlier that the fatal blow to the first ship in international waters may have violated the international right to human rights and maritime law.
