It’s pretty much what you’d expect in terms of big Hollywood releases next year. Sequels, Reboots, Superheroes etc. But one genre that’s a constant hit, but often slightly overlooked, is horror–and 2025 is bringing it in terms of horror. There are big-budget monster movies, mid-budget slasher movies, returning franchises, franchises hoping to start, and even some big filmmakers dipping their toes in the blood.
Every year horror films are hugely successful and people act like a wonder. Well, 2025 is a year that won’t be surprising. One of the biggest films to come out is Leigh Hanel wolf manGuillermo del Toro’s Frankensteinand Maggie Gyllenhaal’s bride. New movie in progress Predator, Final Destination, Saw, Tricky, Magician, I Know What You Did Last Summer, And 28 days Franchises are also on the way. The highly anticipated sequel Black Phone, Five Nights at Freddy’s, And M3GAN What about up and coming filmmakers like Steven Soderbergh? presenceWith Ryan Coogler the sinnerAnd with Edgar Wright The Running Man Joining the fun? And that’s not even everything. Yes, 2025 is going to be bloody.
In addition to all these potentially terrifying horror movies, 2025 will bring another huge year for superhero movies thanks to Captain America: Brave New World, Superman, The Fantastic Four: The First Step, And more. Films that we really want to love and get excited about, but also have a lot of qualms about.
So what are we waiting for? Be pleasantly surprised. Because many of them are questionable on paper. Like the film The Karate Kid: The Legend And Tron: Ares. We love those original films but will 2025 audiences go to movie theaters to see them? There’s that live-action Snow White The remake which seems to have been released years ago. Speaking of which, does the world need a live-action remake? Lilo and Stitch And How to train your dragon? Even some of the biggest blockbusters since the eighth Mission Impossible and seventh jurassic parkFeeling a little behind all the time. We wish them all well! We hope they have. However, we all know how this usually happens.
Most years, the genre films we cover on this site take a backseat to more quality, dramatic fare when awards season rolls around. But in recent years, those movies have continued to pop into the mainstream awards conversation: Everything Everywhere All at One, The Shape of Water, Dune: Part Two, Black Pantheretc. We think this year could be another big year in changing that narrative. When filmmakers like del Toro, Coogler, Soderbergh, Danny Boyle, and Bong Joon-ho are all making weird sci-fi or horror movies, you realize that those movies can break awards barriers.
james song – Gunn is one of the last major filmmakers, and now a studio executive, to interact with fans on an almost daily basis. And, with him superman With movies hitting theaters, as well as many other DC projects coming to fruition, his social media is a must-follow.
Michael Giacchino – The award-winning composer is very good at checking his social media and with his work Fantastic Four It’s always good and fun to see what he’s up to as he prepares for release, not to mention his transition to the director.
John M. Chu – He released one of the biggest films of the year evil And he will do it again in 2025 Evil: For good. Plus, after those two smashes, you know he can probably do whatever he wants next. Maybe he’ll break it online if that happens.
Jason Bloom – If 2025 is the year of horror, you’ll be looking at one of the best horror producers ever. He has had a hand in many of the movies listed above.
Blumhouse – Again, the big-time horror coming out in 2025 is noteworthy, and one of the companies most directly responsible is Blumhouse, especially since it’s now teamed up with James Wan’s Atomic Monster.
Sony Animation – Sony is one of the most underrated animation houses out there and when 2025 was supposed to be Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-VerseUnfortunately that is no longer happening. But along with the work Ghostbusters Film and more, it’s worth keeping an eye on.
Netflix – Since Netflix doesn’t often release dates or announcements for its big movies long in advance, it’s easy to forget that the streamer is making some of the biggest movies in the world. That trend will continue next year with films from the Russo Brothers, Del Toro and others, and you can be sure more announcements are coming.
In 2024, I made one of many predictions High-profile sequels slated for release will consider major awards. And it was right, thanks to Denis Villeneuve. As for 2025, I think it will happen again but you can’t make the same prediction twice. So, for a long shot this year, I think on paper one or more major blockbusters—a superhero movie, Jurassic Park, Mission ImpossiblePixar would do the opposite of a Disney remake, and bomb badly.
