This Robot Vacuum Has a Claw Arm That’s Perfect for Picking Up Rogue Socks

It was only a matter of time before robot vacuums reached a new stage of evolution. Over the years, they have become faster, smarter and can even climb. So, it should come as no surprise to anyone here at CES 2025 that we’ll see one that can sprout a clawed arm to aid in its cleaning duties.

The Roborock Saros Z70 is a robot vacuum with a foldable arm inside the chassis. The “Omnigrip” mechanical arm can extend and bend to pick up small objects or bits of trash and drop them in a specific location.

The Saros Z70 will run its regular cleaning routine and note the items it can pick up. Once the initial cleaning is complete, it will return to pick up the item and take it away. If you’re impatient, you can control your hands through the app. A camera inside the arm makes picking things up easy and gives it a fun carnival game vibe.

The arm itself can only take items up to 300 grams. In an in-person demo, we tried the Saros Z70 to pick up some ballsy socks with mixed results. Robrock said the bot was running on old software at the time of the presentation; The claw hand struggled to lift the loose sock on the first few tries and even refused to come out of its compartment during a test run, requiring a handful of hard resets.

As you can see from the video, the AI-powered robot vacuum takes a long time to pick up and transfer the sock. However, if you’re running it overnight or while you’re away, it’s probably not that big of a deal. In addition to socks, the Saros Z70 should be able to handle small toys, towels and slippers and leave them where they belong.

Roborock says the Saros Z70 detects up to 108 items using machine learning. The app lets you define and label up to 50 custom objects in your household. All data is stored on the device, never in the cloud.

Beyond being able to pick up your trash, the Saros Z70 offers everything you’d expect from a high-end robot vacuum. It mops, cleans corners and has a dock with fast charging. It will also work with smart home ecosystems like Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

The Roborock Saros Z70 will be launched later this year. Pricing has not yet been announced.
