President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of US troops to “devastate the war” Portland, Oregon, allowing the use of “full force” if necessary.
“I target the military secretary, Pete Heget, to provide all the necessary troops to protect the war and one of our ice facilities under the siege of an attack on Antifa and other internal terrorists,” Trump said in a publication on Social Truth Social. “I also authorize the full force if necessary.”
Saturday’s announcement marks the more expanding of troops in US cities, against the backdrop of a broader repression than the Trump administration on illegal immigrants.
Democrats’ deputies in Portland had previously shifted to Trump’s plans to unleash troops.
“I didn’t want – and I don’t need it – federal intervention,” Portland Mayor Keith Wilson said earlier this month.
The ICE and Customs Facility (ICE) in Portland is directed by protesters, sometimes leading to violent clashes in which some federal agents have been injured.
Trump’s Saturday morning does not specify whether he intends to activate the National Guard or regular US military.
The BBC contacted the Ministry of War for more details.
Trump hinted at surgery in Portland on Thursday.
“We will go out there and do a very large number of these people in Portland,” he told reporters in the oval office, describing goals as “professional agitators and anarchists.”
He described Portland earlier in September as “Like Living in Hell” and had said he was considering sending federal troops.
Earlier this week, Trump also signed an order officially defining Antifa as an internal terrorist organization.
MPs of Democratic Oregon condemned Trump’s comments as well as the alleged behavior of the State Agents in the State.
“Ice said he was referring to people for arrest and detention who had committed crimes.
