US President Donald Trump has said he is ready to impose more sanctions on Russia, but only if NATO countries meet certain conditions that include the suspension of the purchase of Russian oil.
In a publication on his social platform for the truth, he said he was “ready to do major sanctions against Russia” after NATO nations “agreed and started to do the same thing.”
Trump has repeatedly threatened more strengthened measures against Moscow, but so far he has failed to take any action when the Kremlin has neglected his deadlines and threats of sanctions.
He described the purchases of Russian oil as “shocking” and also suggested NATO put rates of 50 to 100% for China, claiming that it would weaken its “strong control” over Russia.
In what he called a letter to NATO Nations, Trump said, “I’m ready to” go “when you are. Just say when?”
He added that “buying Russian oil from some is shocking! This significantly weakens your negotiating position and negotiating strength over Russia.”
Trump also claims that stopping Russian energy purchases, combined with heavy tariffs for China, “completely withdrawn” after the war, will be “great help” in the termination of the conflict.
The reading of Europe of Russian energy has declined dramatically since the start of the full -scale invasion of Moscow in Ukraine.
In 2022, the EU received about 45% of its gas from Russia. This is expected to fall to about 13% this year, although Trump’s words suggest that he thinks this figure is not sufficient.

EU is committed to removing purchases by 2028. The United States wants this to happen faster -partly, and instead buy deliveries from them.
Trump’s message was to NATO, not the EU, therefore including nations such as Turkey, a major buyer of Russian oil and a country that maintains a more relaxing relations with Moscow that any other member of the Union.
Ankara’s persuasion to cut off Russian supplies can be a far more difficult task.
Trump’s last threat of more stringed sanctions against Russia came earlier in September, after the most serious bombing of the Kremlin from Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
Asked by reporters if he was ready to move to the “second phase” of Moscow’s punishment, Trump replied: “Yes, I am,” though he did not give details.
Earlier, the United States put up 50% tariffs for goods from India – which included a 25% sentence for transactions with Russia, which are a key source of funds for war in Ukraine.
