US and Chinese employees will hold a second day of commercial talks in Spain on Monday as a deadline for the Chinese owner of Tiktok to find a buyer or Face a ban on America Stations.
Negotiations led by US Secretary of Finance Scott Bensten and Chinese deputy prime minister HE LIFENG are the last attempt to end the trade war between the two largest economies in the world.
The highest level trade delegations from Beijing and Washington last met in July when they made a deal to extend their truce for tariffs by another 90 days until November 10.
After initially urging Tiktok to be banned during his first term, Trump canceled his position in the popular video sharing app and delayed the ban three times so far.
BBC contacted the White House and Tiktok for comment.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump said, “We can leave (tiktok) to die. Or we can … I don’t know. It depends. To China doesn’t matter too much.”
Come that expectations are increasing that the deadline to expire on Wednesday will be fourth timeS
Last month, Trump suggested that he would continue to extend the deadline, while the Tiktok buyer could not be found also called national security and confidential concerns about the application and its Chinese -mother bytedance “highly overestimated”.
Trump was highly critical of Tittok during his first term in the White House, but softened his position after gaining popularity during the 2024 presidential election.
In August, the White House launches its official Tiktok account.
The app is one of the most widely used social media platforms in the world, with about 170 million users in the United States.
During the talks this week, employees are also expected to lay the foundations for a potential meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping back in October, when they are planned to attend a summit in South Korea.
Tariffs truce between China and the US reduce import taxes that have reached more than 100% on the goods of the other.
The extension gave them more time to negotiate “unfair commercial practices” and to deal with the problems of national security, the White House said.
