Halil, a permanent American resident of Palestinian descent, was a prominent figure during the Gaza war protests in 2024 at the University of Colombia, where he studied.

The lawyers of the 30 -year -old Halil said they would appeal the decision and added that individual orders of the federal court remain in force, which prohibit the government from deporting or detaining it.

On June 20, the judge ruled that Halil should be released.

While being detained, the wife of G -H Khalil, a US citizen, gave birth to his son.

In March, the US government also accused Halil of leaving details of its previous immigration documentation associations, including UNWR membership – the UN agency working with Palestinians – and a “continuing work” at the British Embassy in Beirut.

In response to the recent decision, Halil added: “When their first efforts to deport me, they fail, they resorted to the production of unfounded and ridiculous allegations in an attempt to muffle me about speaking and firmly with Palestine, requesting the cessation of the ongoing genocide.”

Trump has repeatedly claimed that propalist activists, including Mr Halil, support Hamas, a group has identified a terrorist organization from the United States. The president claims that these protesters must be deported and called the arrest of the Halil “the first of many upcoming.”

The role of G -H Khalil in the protests of Colombia in 2024 put him in the eyes of the public. On the first line of negotiations, he played a role in mediation between university and activists and students who attended the protests.

Activists supporting Israel have accused Halil of being the leader of the University of Colombian University of Apartheid Devest (Cuad), a student who requires, among other things, to get rid of its financial relations with Israel and to end the fire in Gaza.

Halil denied that he had led the group, telling the Associated Press (AP) that he had served as a spokesman for protesters and as a university mediator.
