For the sixth time, the veto veto the UN Security Council project, which would request an immediate and constant ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.

The Middle East Deputy Middle East Morgan Ortag said the text did not go far enough in Hamas’s condemnation or acknowledged Israel’s right to defend itself.

All 14 other members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution project – in which they described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as a “catastrophic” and called on Israel to eliminate all restrictions on assistance.

It comes when the UN Humanitarian Office warns that the last civilian rescue lines collapse in the city of Gaza while Israel expanded its military offensive.

On the global stage, Israel and his closest ally seem increasingly isolated.

Speaking before the vote, Ortag said Washington’s opposition against the resolution should “be no surprise.”

“He fails to condemn Hamas or acknowledge Israel’s right to defend himself and wrongly legitimize the fake stories that benefit Hamas, who unfortunately found a currency in this advice,” she said.

After the vote, the UN members responded quickly to express their disappointment.

The Palestinian UN Ambassador Riyadh Mansour called the US decision “deeply regrets and painful”, saying that he had prevented the Security Council from “playing his legal role in the face of these atrocities.”

Pakistan’s ambassador Asim Ahmad described the veto as a “dark moment in this camera”.

“The world is watching. The cries of children have to break our hearts,” he said.

Amar Benjama, Ambassador of Algeria, apologized to the Palestinian people.

“The Palestinian brothers, the Palestinian sisters, forgive us,” he said.

“Forgive us because the world speaks of rights, but deny them to the Palestinians. Forgive us, because our efforts, our sincere efforts, broken against this wall of rejection.”

This last UN vote came just days before the world leaders gather for the UN General Assembly, where Gaza will be a major topic and are expected to recognize key American allies, including the United Kingdom Palestinian stateS

In Gaza, thousands of people continue to flee from the region against the backdrop of continuing deadly attacks, as Israeli tanks and troops continue to progress on the third day of the terrestrial offensive.

Olga Cherevko, a spokesman for the UN Humanitarian Office, told the BBC that the situation in Gaza was “nothing but cataclysmic.”

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to an attack led by Hamas against southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and 251 others were hostage.

At least 65 141 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the health ministry in the territory.

The ministry says another 435 people have died during the war as a result of malnutrition and hunger, including four in the last 24 hours.
