Vietnamese singer Duc Phuc won the Russian interview competition held in Moscow on Saturday.
Vietnam was among 23 countries participating in the Soviet era competition, revived by President Vladimir Putin three years after Russia was banned by Eurovision for its full -time invasion of Ukraine.
Putin said he was confident that the event would become “one of the most recognizable and beloved events in the world.”
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine said it considers interviews 2025 “an instrument of hostile propaganda and a means of whitening the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation.”
China and India were among the participants, but the singer, born in Australia, Vasi, representing the United States, withdrew at the last moment because of “unprecedented political pressure from the Australian government,” the organizers said.
