For thousands of years before the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Republic was one of the dominant forces in the socio-political makeup. Star Wars‘ Galaxy. But while some flashpoints are explored—especially as you get closer to the time of the Republic’s fall in the prequel trilogy—mostly for the present. Star Wars Continuity keeps the Republic’s past bordering on legend. But the franchise became more and more interested in its deep past, since James Mangold’s Ancient Jedi Movie even Skeleton crewits search Of the old republic, how much do we actually know about the republic was an equivalent long A long time ago?

Age of the Galactic Republic

The governance of the Galactic Republic can be largely divided Four distinct periods—Each shorter than the last, and the last two are essentially subdivisions of the second term. The largest are two basic broad eras of galactic history: one beginning with the official establishment of the Republic about 25,000 years before the First Event; Star Wars movie saga, and the creation of the “modern” Republic – the galactic entity as we largely know it Star Wars‘ prequel material—about a thousand years before those films. These latter two subdivisions are the eras we know best through mainline material: the High Republic period, the post-Reformation republican period that took place over about 400 years, and its As seen in Twilight Acolyte And Star Wars Prequel trilogy with the eventual dismantling of the Galactic Empire.

The former is currently the least explored of these periods Star Wars Continuity, but is significantly more fleshed out The old “expanded universe” of the franchise.. While many of these stories clearly remain outside of current continuity, the contemporary canon has created vague notions that some of the EU stories still remain ideologically true in some form—but only in a broad sense, establishing little official material knowledge of what the Republic was like. ruled and existed in its oldest period.

Now, 24,000 years a a lot History, and for the most part, our current knowledge of what is most commonly referred to by the title “Old Republic” (it has always been the Galactic Republic throughout history) is deliberately vague. Although the Expanded Universe thrived on exploring this period through things like this Tales of the Jedi comics, and most famously the worldbuilding of BioWare and Obsidian Knights of the Old Republic seriescontemporary Star Wars Canon regards this era as little more than mythology, with EU still having some conventional influence beyond allusions to story and character elements from this period. That could certainly change as we get closer to projects like Mangold’s aforementioned “Dawn of the Jedi” movie, which will be set around the same time as the formation of the Republic in 25,000 BBY.

What we know about the old republic still bears some similarities to more contemporary republics Star Wars Film Coruscant has always been the seat of power, the galactic core forming some of the Republic’s oldest member worlds and the seat of power. The Jedi Order, founded at the same time, also had long ties to the Republic, both spiritually and militarily. More appearances Extensive hyperspace travelAs well as financial support from other ruling planetary powers, the fledgling Republic allowed the fledgling Republic to expand its borders over thousands of years, accepting more member worlds and inevitably clashing with other galactic powers as they crossed paths. Defines much of what we know about this period of galactic history: we know that at some point the Republic faced off against the Zyzerian Empire and fell out with its approval of slavery, leading to a war between the Republic and Jedi forces that ultimately destroyed most of the Zyzerian force. . Base We also know that the Mandalorians also waged multiple crusades against the Old Republic and the Jedi during this era, resulting in multiple wars.

The rise of the splinter faction of the Jedi that would eventually become the Sith—some 20,000 years after the Order’s founding—also created another major battle front for the Jedi and the Republic. Throughout their existence the Sith have fought multiple wars against the Jedi, bringing them into closer alignment with the Republic after the establishment of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. The primary conflict between The Jedi and the Sith post-Schism The Sith saw the latter faction exiled from Republic space before its own galactic power, the Sith Empire, arose from the planet Moravand. Collectively known as the Sith Wars, these engagements aligned the Republic with the Jedi and the Chis Ascendancy, on multiple fronts against Sith and Mandalorian hostilities, bringing the final millennium of Old Republic rule into essentially perpetual war chaos.

The final Jedi-Sith war of this period saw a dominant Sith Empire effectively take over much of the Republic across the galaxy. Coruscant itself was sacked and occupied, and although it was eventually liberated by the Jedi, much of the Republic was still ravaged by interstellar conflict. A resurgent Jedi Order, along with the remnants of the Republic military, went on an offensive that would pave the way for a full-scale reform of the galactic institution.

The liberation of Coruscant marked a turning point for the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic. The brave Jedi strike at the Mandalorians, leaving them Homeworld of Mandalore Along with the environmental disaster, the Mandalorian clan ends their crusade against the Republic. This resurgence also heralded the supposed end of the Sith Empire as a galactic power, as Jedi and Republic forces clashed with Imperial and Sith holdouts on the planet Rusan around 1,032 BBY. The near-total extermination of the Sith forced the handful of survivors to abandon Moravian and go into hiding, leading to the establishment of Darth Bane’s “Two Reigns” that overshadowed the Sith for centuries. But the victory also allowed a glimpse into the breathing room of the Republic, which had been devastated by a millennium of perpetual war.

The end of the Jedi-Sith War led to the formal reformation of the Republic, including the first establishment of a democratic union with the creation of the Galactic Senate. Part of the process of ushering in a new era of peace also saw the republic undergo a massive disarmament process-What a little contradiction What came into this era was largely dealt with by the Jedi Order, the law enforcement arm of the Republic, assisting peacekeepers in disputes and internal affairs of the Judiciary. This peace would eventually usher in a period seen as the pinnacle of the Galactic Republic’s reach and power in the greater galaxy known as the Era of the High Republic. Beginning around 500 BBY, the High Republic was a distinct period By expansionist principles From strong efforts to chart safe hyperspace travel routes throughout the Galactic Republic, the Core Worlds, and pushing Republic influence in the Middle Rim further into the Outer Rim regions. This effort was also supported by the Pathfinder Force of the Republic, who worked alongside the Jedi Order Connected communication network Throughout the Republic’s advance into the Outer Rim, the Holonet was born as one of the real communications and media networks across Republic space.

But while the High Republic was seen as the height of its influence and reach, much like the expansionist policies of the Old Republic before it, it was also a time in which the Republic and the Jedi Order once again engaged in wide-ranging conflict, particularly against the Republic. By this time the Republic had encountered Nihil’s pirate forces at the edge of space. The light of the High Republic would fade by about 100 BBY, as the massive expansion of galactic entities brought a growing sense of stagnation. As the Republic expands further and further into the Outer Rim, absorbing worlds along the way, trade and commerce find themselves increasingly drawn from the lucrative fringes of Republic space and directly back into the cosmic power centers of the Core Worlds. Corruption is rampant, as an increasingly unruly senatorial body concentrates power toward the center of the Republic, and the limited reach of judicial forces and Jedi peacekeepers alike leads to crime and piracy spreading throughout much of the Republic’s sprawling territory. Corporate power became increasingly common in the region, leading to increased influence of financial blocs and institutions such as trade federations or banking groups.

The rise of this economic power—given political power and influence in the Senate, both through backroom deals and their own representation within the republican regime—laid the foundation for the republic’s own destruction. A Trade Federation invasion of the mid-Rim world Naboo, supported from the shadows by the conspiracies of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, led to a rise in power within the Senate and the ouster of Chancellor Finis Valorum, the last scion of a family. In republics, ruling power was consolidated over generations. From there, Sidious, impersonating Naboo Senator Shev Palpatine, assumed power as the last Supreme Chancellor, bringing his latest apprentice—the former Jedi Master and Count of Sereno—as well as the growing discontent of the world outside the galactic core under control. , Dooku – to organize a formal separatist movement in the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

The Separatist Crisis, and the galactic conflict that arose from it in the Clone Wars—with the establishment of the first standing army the Galactic Republic had seen in thousands of years—were the climactic act of Palpatine’s manipulation of galactic events to align himself with both political power grabbers within the Republic (supporting the Republic Encouraged through a series of dictatorial powers granted through emergency laws for (the war effort) and the Sith in the Jedi Order. The architect of revenge. Some 25,000 years after it was founded, the conflict that once defined and then reformed the Republic shattered it completely with the climax of the Clone Wars, the destruction of the Jedi Order in response to a perceived coup giving Palpatine the opportunity. Dissolving the Republic and reborn as the First Galactic Empire. Its reign may have been brief—and replaced by a new republic that still carries many Understanding and mistakes In his recent past—but Palpatine accomplished the unthinkable by ending ten thousand years of spiritual and political influence with the end of the Jedi Order and the Republic.
