Some bike lock manufacturers provide their own internal security rating for guidance. These may be helpful but the most secure locks we have tested are using standard ratings from objective sources Secured sellingWhich provides rating of multiple vehicles between bronze and diamonds and ArtWhich uses a number scale from 1 to 5.
So what do these ratings really mean? The top two lock-safety agencies and a guide of their rating system are here:
Secured selling In 1992 was founded by the UK Northambia and Essex Police. The brand is now operated and operated by the Master Locksmiths Association, a non -profitable trade group. It uses a four-level rating system as listed below.
SELLING SAFE RATING SELLINGS: Bronze (protected against minimum, basic equipment); Silver (secured against midrange, extended equipment/determined attacks); Gold (second best, resistant against dedicated equipment/attacks); Diamond (resistant against the highest, destructive attack and “special tool”).
The firm uses separate ratings for different vehicles such as bike vs. motorcycles (which is now called pedal cycle and powered cycle, respectively). For example, Hiplok DX contains a sale secured Pedal Rating and safe to sell a Gold Rating. This is a good score, but it is not as protected as top crop-resistant alternatives like Little X1 or Litlock X3 and Hiplock D1000, all three of which get diamond rating in both categories. Industrial rating level: 1/5 (Minimum protection rating, only fit for the second bike lock); 2/5 (Higher protection rating that presents good steal protection for bicycles, the lowest for most insurance companies); 3/5 (Bicycle protection for high risk of steal, insurance purposes and suitable for scooters); 4/5 (Very high security rating for bicycles, good theft protection for motorcycles while traveling); 5/5 (Maximum protection rating, sometimes at home stored motorcycles need to be insured).
