At least 78 people have been confirmed dead in central Texas and another 41 are missing after flash floods on Friday.
Sixty -eight casualties, including 28 children, happened in Kerr County, where the Riverside Christian girls camp was glued. Ten girls and a Camp Mystic advisor are still missing.
Officials say the death rate will surely rise. More storms are expected in the next 24-48 hours in the region, which could impede rescue teams that are already facing poisonous snakes as they sift through mud and debris.
Three days after the flooding, one of the biggest efforts to search and rescue in the latest history of Texas has focused on a recovery operation.
Of the re -established in Kerr County, 18 adults and 10 children have not yet been officially identified.
Texas Governor Greg Abat said on Sunday that the authorities would “stop at nothing” to ensure that every missing person was found.
Ghetto images“It was nothing terrible to see what these young children were going through,” Abbot said, a day after he toured the area.
The main focus of demand is Camp Mystic, a popular summer camp for girls perched on the bank of the Guadalupe River, which caused significant damage.
The crash unfolded before Daybreak on Friday, when the river rose 26 feet (8 m) for only 45 minutes, until most camps fell asleep.
Several young camps and longtime camp director Richard Dick Eastland are among the dead.
Greg Freelik, a former naval press and a volunteer in the Rescue Group 300, helps the efforts to find survivors.
Speaking to the BBC, he said he had heard of the victims that were found up to eight miles down from where the Mystic camp once stood.
He said he had seen “bearing dressers and objects scattered everywhere, up and down the river.”
There is also uncertainty about how many other people have been camping in the area for the fourth July weekend – and how many may have been swept into the floods.
A two -tape highway, which is watering the Guadalupe River and connects the city of Kervil with a Mystic camp, is a devastation scene.
The devastated homes are surrounded by fallen trees and furniture in lawns. The fences have been removed and the useful lines down in some areas.
President Donald Trump has signed a large Disaster Disaster on Sunday for Kerr County, activating the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Texas. He also said he would probably visit the state on Friday.
“We work very closely with Texas representatives and this is a terrible thing that has happened, absolutely terrible,” Trump said on Sunday in New Jersey on Sunday.
On Earth, locals are activated to support efforts to help – supply, offering shelter, and do their best to help neighbors displaced by the storm.
Alma Garcia entered the city of San Antonio to deliver home -cooked meals to residents and volunteers, helping for cleaning efforts.
BBC saw her pull on the side of the road and removed a t-shirt from the highest layer to give to a resident.
“She was all wet. I told her she would need it,” G -Ja Garcia told the BBC.
Local resident Perla started collecting clothes and shoes on Friday after completing her change at Walmart. She released them to a shelter the next morning.
“I’ve never seen anything like that before,” she told the BBC.
In the meantime, they were well poured from all over the world.
In Rome, Pope Leo XIV offered special prayers on Sunday for the victims in Texas.
“I would like to express sincere condolences to all families who have lost their loved ones, more specially, their daughters who were in the summer camp, in the disaster caused by the flood of the Guadalupe River in Texas in the United States,” the pontiff said.
“We pray for them.”
