A huge fire covers the historic plantation house in Louisiana

The flames were torn through a former plantation house in Louisiana, which was built in 1859, destroying much of the historical structure.

The fire began on Thursday afternoon when two employees saw smoke out of a room on the second floor.

Between 30 and 40 firefighters attended the scene, but failed to control the flames, according to CBS News.

By the end of the day, the historical mansion was declared a complete loss.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated and there are no reports of injuries.
