Police operation has unfolded in the Russian Consulate in Sydney

A man was arrested after driving a car through the gates of the Russian Consulate in Sydney.

Police have been called to the consulate in the Wallahra suburbs around 8:00 local time, after reports that an unauthorized vehicle has been parked on the alley.

They tried to talk to the driver before he crashed through the gates at the entrance to the property.

The 39-year-old was arrested at the scene and was helping police in their investigations, police said. An officer was injured in his hand, but there were no other reports of injury.

Police have not disclosed any more information about the driver or their motivation, but they say the inquiries continue.

A witness told Sydney Morning Herald that the man was arrested without a clear struggle.

“I just saw the police attract their weapons to a gentleman, asking the gentleman to get out of his car,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous, “he told the newspaper.
