The French police questioned a man on suspicion of murder after four bodies were found in the Seine.

The first victim was spotted by a passerby near a bridge in Choisy-le-Ri, the southeast suburb of the capital, on August 13. Later on the same day, police searched the area found three more bodies immersed nearby.

Prosecutors say one of the victims was strangled and another showed violent injuries.

The suspect is held in Paris. The police did not give details about him or how many murders were questioned.

The first body was only in the water for a short time and was identified as a local 40-year-old man, prosecutors said.

The three others were found in a “very advanced state of decomposition,” they added.

Prosecutors have stressed that there is no evidence of a victim relationship so far. They could be immersed in separate places upstream and taken from the current to the foot of the Choisy Bridge.
