The flights were temporarily interrupted at Liberia Airport on Thursday night after a private jet carried President Joseph Boakai almost crashed as he landed.
Part of the landing of the presidential jet is not functioning as it approached the track, causing a rough landing, authorities at the airport said.
The incident, which caused the airport panic, forced the cancellation of all planned flights overnight, local media reported.
President Boakai, who was returning from a trip to Nigeria with his entourage, was safely evacuated unharmed as the authorities announced an investigation.
Photos of the stagnant jet at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) have spread to social media, raising concerns about the safety of the president.
Local media, citing the airport authorities, said one of the airplane tires had burst when landing, leaving it on the track.
In a statement, the body of the Liberia airport (LAA) confirmed “the unfortunate situation near a case” involving the presidential aircraft.
The organ rejected reports that suggest that the incident was caused by poor track conditions.
“The track infrastructure remains fully compliant with international aviation safety standards,” LAA said.
Since then, the aircraft has been removed from the track and normal operations have resumed at the airport, authorities said.
“At this stage, the investigation to establish the actual cause of the incident continues and the airport administration will inform the public,” LAA said.
The Liberian Presidency is yet to comment on the incident, but he shared photos of Boakai arriving at the airport, where he briefly talks with journalists without mentioning the scare on the plane.
He had gone to Nigeria to attend the 50th anniversary of the regional economic community of the West African countries (Ecowas).
