BbcThe funeral of Pope Francis will be more than that of the previous Pope, following the instructions he set out.
But as the head of state and the leader of more than a billion Catholics around the world, this will still be a performance of ceremony and tradition.
His death attracted famous figures, politicians and thousands of followers in the Vatican City to give their respect.
Archbishops and bishops will start to gather At 08:30 local time (07:30 BST) In the wing of Constantine, a corridor adjacent to St. Peter’s Basilica.
At the same time, Catholic priests will gather at St. Peter Square.
Half an hour later, At 09:00 local timeThe patriarchs of the Orthodox Church and the Cardinals will gather in the chapel of St. Sebastian, inside the Basilica, where the remains of Pope John Paul II are located.
They will stroll in a funeral procession accompanying the ark of the Pope, who spent the last four days in the center of the Basilica “St. Peter”.
The funeral begins At 10:00 When the ark is laid on the square in front of St. Peter’s basilica. The service will be led by the Dean of the Cardinals College, Cardinal Giovanni Batista Re.
You can fully follow the service order here.
Guests and dignitaries will be located closer to the basilica and the ark, with thousands of other clergy and members of the public in and around the Square of St. Peter, similar to the funeral for Pope Benedict XVI, shown above.

The service will end with prayers for Pope Francis and final praise – a final prayer in which the Pope will be officially entrusted to God.
This marks the beginning of a nine -day mourning period called Novemdiales with a liturgy held daily in its memory.
Officials expect at least 250,000 public members to attend the funeral and there are about 170 state heads in the guest list.
Prince William will represent King Charles III, continuing a precedent set in 2005, when the then Prince of Wales attended the funeral of Pope John Paul II on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II.
Other heads of state and piano have confirmed their presenceIncluding US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, King of Spain Felipe VI and Queen Airion and Brazil President Louis Inasio Lula da Silva.

There will also be hundreds of members of the clergy, with each group having a specific dress code for the service.
For bishops and archbishops, the liturgical burial clothes include Alba white tunic held by a traditional cord called zinctureThehe friendlyshort linen cloth to cover the neck and red persecutionsolemn nose, in honor of the Pope. Finally, they wear just white underwear or silk mitra on their heads.
Cardinals wear similar clothes, but they can be distinguished in the fasterly decorated mothers, which look cream, not white.

The priests wear a simpler clothes and a longer scarf over their tunic, called red stolen.

The leaders or patriarchs of Orthodox churches will wear their own style of mitra, a nose called Jacket and a richly decorated fabric called homophorionIn colors according to their specific traditions.
After the service, Francis’ body – dressed in red pursuit and fabric and golden papal mithi – will be transported from St. Peter to the Basilica of Santa Maria Magiore in Rome for a funeral.
The route crosses the Tiber River and passes through the Colosseum.
He will become the first pope after Leo XIII to die in 1903 to be buried outside the Vatican.

Traditionally, the remains of the Pope would be closed the day before the funeral in three embedded coffins made of cypress, lead and oak.
The casket of the cypress symbolizes humility and mortality; The outer ark of oak, a sign of “dignity and strength” and a lead ark, welded, to keep the remains and prevent seasoning.
Last year, however, Pope Francis demanded to be buried in a simpler wooden ark with zinc interiors.
This is the ark that will be seen in the funeral service.
Ghetto imagesAccording to Monsignor Diego Raveli, master of the Vatican in liturgical ceremonies, the request emphasized “, moreover, that the funeral of the Roman pontiff is that of a shepherd and disciple of Christ, not a powerful man of this world.”
Pope Francis is a Jesuit, a Catholic religious order of priests, known for his dedication to education and missionary work.
He was also devoted to the Virgin and, as such, chose to be buried in Santa Maria Magiore, who sits outside the walls of the Vatican in the center of Rome.
The church is housed Salus Populi Romani, the Byzantine icon of the Virgin, which is thought to be made by the Gospel “St. Luke” and used by Jesuit orders around the world.
Ghetto imagesIn his will, written in 2022, Pope Francis says: “Throughout my life and during my ministry as a priest and bishop, I have always been entrusted to the mother of our Lord, to the Blessed Virgin.”
“I wish my last earthly journey to end in this ancient Marianan sanctuary, where I would always stop at the beginning and at the end of every apostolic journey, confidently entrusted with my intentions to the blameless mother and thank her for her gentle and maternal care,” he writes.
On his first day as Pope in 2013, Francis left the Vatican to pray in Santa Maria Magiore.
Seven Papi are buried in the same basilica in ornamented tombs, but the Argentine Pantif demanded that his tomb would be on the side path, between the Paulis chapel (the Salus Populi Chapel) and the Chapel of the Sforza Chapel, near a statue known as Mary Regina, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary Regina, Mary Regina, Mary Regina, Mary Regina, Mary Regina, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary Regina Passis.
