A Russian-American citizen is released in an exchange of prisoners between Moscow and Washington.

The amateur ballerina Xenia Karelina, a resident of Los Angeles, was in prison in Russia for more than a year after being arrested in the city of Yekaterinburg in early 2024.

She was found guilty of betraying money to a charity in the United States providing humanitarian support to Ukraine and was sentenced to 12 years in a criminal colony.

In return, the United States has released Arthur Petrov, a double German-Russian citizen, arrested in Cyprus in 2023. He was charged with illegally removing Russia’s micro-electronics for Russian military producers.

The change of prisoners took place in Abu Dhabi in the early hours of Thursday.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that G -Ja Karelina has been “on an airplane at home in the United States.”

He added that she had been “wrongly detained by Russia for more than a year.”

“President Trump has secured his release. (President) will continue to work to release all Americans.”

CIA Director John Ratcliffe is on the stock market, said The Wall Street Journal.

This is the second Swap prisoners between Russia and the US in less than two months.

In February, Russian national Alexander Vinic – who was imprisoned in the United States on charges of money laundering – was released in exchange for release to American teacher Mark Fogel.
