The Israeli-Russian explorer has been released after “tormented for many months” by its Iraqi police abductors, US President Donald Trump announced.
In a publication about Truth Social Trump said: “I am pleased to announce that Elizabeth Tsurkov, a student in Princeton, whose sister is an American citizen, has just been released by Kataib Hezbollah and is now safe at the US Embassy in Iraq.”
Iraq Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani confirmed the release of Mrs. Tsurkov shortly after.
She had disappeared in Iraq during a research trip in March 2023 – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said a few months later that she was held by Iran -supported by Iran, Hezbollah.
